How the Democrats Intend on Getting the Black Vote

The words “I’ll have these ni**ers voting Democrat for 200 years,” allegedly stated by United States President Lyndon B. Johnson, has been an eerie premonition that has come into fruition.

The Democratic Party’s community voting biggest voter base comes from the African-American community, with 90 percent of the community historically voting Democrat. However, there is a lot of room to question how one-sided and genuine this union really is.

The appeal for and passing of the Civil Rights Act in the late 1940s to the 1970s, spearheaded by Democratic presidents, Harry S Truman, John F. Kennedy, and Lyndon B Johnson, awarded what seemed to be equal rights to Black Americans. Democrats have ridden the coattails of this
policy, as a sign of their allegiance to Black Americans. This piece of legislation has also formed what looks to be an inseparable relationship between the two until the last election, where there was a 4.7 percent decline with black voter turnout. More Black voters are now demanding tangible change in a country that has largely used symbolism and pandering to pacify their community.

So how have the Democrats executed this?

In 1992, former president, Bill Clinton decided to make an appearance on the Arsenio Hall Talk Show sporting sunglasses, playing the saxophone, which assuaged the conscious of many Black voters. Clinton was also anointed as the first “Black President,” by Toni Morrison.
However, when he got into the White House, Black Americans were subjected to a crime bill that disproportionally targeted African Americans. His presidency resulted in no tangibles for the Black community.

2008 ushered in the countries’ first Black president, Barack Obama, a time when more Black Americans were slaughtered compared to the Jim Crow era. But instead of putting forth real change, Black Americans were serenaded and soothed by Obama with Al Green songs and verses from Amazing Grace. Although the former president issued law enforcement to wear body cams, he also pumped $263 million into their department, while leaving Black Americans with zero tangibles.

The other Clinton was wheeled out for Black America, to yet again, support Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign which did not come with a Black agenda, but offered more pandering and false hope for a community that had gotten her husband, Bill Clinton, to the Oval Office. Instead of providing a blueprint to tackle racism and white supremacy, Secretary Clinton bragged about touting hot sauce in her purse to Charlamagne Tha God and The Breakfast Club radio hosts. Unfortunately, for the Democratic Party, Hillary Clinton would get shut out in the election by President Donald Trump.

This election has featured the Democrats scrambling and using the exact same tactics, shamelessly pandering for the Black vote more than ever. From Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, wearing Kente cloth in solidarity for the Black Lives Matter protests to president-elect.

The Democrats have done everything but provide the promise of tangible change for Black Americans, which may result in their demise in the coming fall. And even with saying Breonna Taylor’s name or adoring African print, it seems that Black lives only matter when an election
time encroaches, and Black votes are needed at the polls.
