Federal Ministers give millions to White owned company and use Black youth as cover.
Our Team was live at the press conference.
On the left is MP Pablo Rodriguez. He keeps his mouth shut. Why? Our producer asked why his federal government would come to Halifax to announce $4.5 Million to fund Culture Link – a “culture” company that has no intention of hiring members of the Black community. Not for the construction of the new facilities, not in the front office. Nothing. We spoke to the developer who will do the work. They also admitted they had no plan to hire Black workers.
The crux of this situation is that the government gathered many of our local Black youth for the press conference, using them as photo ops. Offering them nothing tangible, just the promise of free studio time when the multimillion-dollar facilities are built. Rodriguez will be named the House Leader later today in the new Trudeau Liberal cabinet.
After the press conference, Rodriguez had the audacity to Tweet a picture of him at Africville saying it “is a story of tragedy, but also one of faith and the strength of community.” Many African Nova Scotians told us this was blatant disrespect.
Breakdown of the funding from both the government and the private sector:
$2.79 Million from the Province
$4.5 Million from the Federal Government
$2 Million from Armco Capital
$2.9 Million from Invest Nova Scotia
Total $12.19 Million
